    300 Rotorua workers have today added their opposition to National's weakening of work rights.

    The workers attended a meeting at the Soundshell this morning to discuss National's proposed changes to employment law, National Distribution Union (NDU) Wood Sector Secretary Stan Renwick said.

    340 Inghams workers have today added their opposition to National's weakening of work rights.

    At a meeting in Waitoa this afternoon, workers from both the processing plant in Te Aroha and the distribution centre in Waitoa, expressed their concern at the government's proposals to remove workplace rights, National Distribution Union (NDU) spokesperson Stan Renwick said.

    33 workers attended a meeting at the Levin Cosmopolitan Club this morning to discuss National's proposed changes to the Employment Relations and Holidays Acts, National Distribution Union General Secretary Robert Reid said.

    The Employment Relations Authority has found in favour of the National Distribution Union (NDU) and its members at two Christchurch distribution centres, after Foodstuffs South Island unlawfully suspended them during strike action.

    Foodstuffs South Island has been ordered to pay back wages to the union members concerned, workers at the Papanui and Hornby distribution centres.

    NDU members at the plant have been on strike since last Tuesday.

    Thirty two NDU union members at Paper Reclaim in Penrose are on strike for the third consecutive day.

    NDU organiser Syd Keepa says the workers are asking for an increase of $1 an hour to compensate for the constant stream of price increases they face.

    International trade union support is coming in for the possible resolution of the 19 year old strike by 340 miners at the Australian owned Emperor Gold Mine in Vatukoula, Fiji.

    Today support came from the Robert Reid, the General Secretary of the National Distribution Union, one of the largest private sector unions in New Zealand. Robert Reid is also an executive member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of the International Chemical, Energy and Mining Union Federation (ICEM).
